2026 American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ National Family Law Conference
The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) held its third annual family law conference June 25-27, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Gill Family Law’s Lisa Gill and Chelsea Connor were in attendance. While Lisa is already a Fellow with the AAML, Chelsea attended the pre-conference program, which allowed her to hear about the application process on becoming a Fellow with the AAML.
During the three-day conference, Lisa and Chelsea attended various sessions and heard from practitioners and other professionals from across the country. The sessions were as follows:
1. High Stakes, High Security: Protecting Your Practice from Cyber Threats in the Digital Age
a. This session provided practical tools to protect client information, including, but not limited to, implemented an incident response plan to be followed when a breach occurs.
2. The Value Camble: Business Valuation Reports at Trial
a. This presentation provided practical strategies for effectively examining business valuation reports in litigation and/or negotiation settings.
3. AI in Action: Practical Implementation for Family Law Firms
a. Seeing as AI is becoming more and more relied upon, this session offered a guide through essential AI concepts and compared the most common tools.
4. When Tax Laws Change
a. This session provided an overview of the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill tax law and examined its practical impact on divorce and family law matters.
5. What Happens in Vegas, Might End Up in Court
a. This lively session presented by three (3) law partners from different places in the United States walked through real-world fact patterns.
6. Rolling with the High Rollers: Family Law Strategies for the Ultra-Wealthy
a. This session provided insight into the representation of ultra-wealthy and high net worth individuals and the steps taken to protect their privacy – both in the U.S. and around the world.
7. Dealing Experts In: Winning with Alternative Dispute Resolution
a. This session was designed to enhance resolving conflicts through ADR methods.
8. Hot Tips on Navigating UIFSA, UCCJEA, and Military Law
a. This session offered practical tips in dealing with and navigating complex bodies of law, including cases that involve multiple jurisdictions.
9. Getting Global Discovery into the Family Law Courtroom
a. This session focused on the realities of cross-border discovery in divorce matters, including obtaining financial, business, digital, and testimonial evidence from other states and foreign countries.
10. Elder Divorce Realities
a. This session unpacked the unique issues of “gray divorce” and “silver separation” cases.
11. AI Hallucinations vs. Expert Truths
a. This session provided insight from a father-daughter team – one a family law attorney and the other a doctoral-level psychologist – to a real-world case where an expert’s reliance on AI produced citations, references, and authority that simply did not exist.
12. How to Get Custody Evaluations In or Out of Evidence
a. This session provided attendees a chance to hear from a lawyer and mental health expert with attention to concepts, practices, and theories that are likely to raise evidentiary concerns.
13. The Science of Addiction – Keynote
a. This program featured Dr. Stephen Dewey, a nationally recognized expert on the neuroscience of addiction and who examines addiction as a brain-based disease.
Lisa and Chelsea gained valuable and practical knowledge that they can apply to their practice and in representing the clients of Gill Family Law, as well as formed relationships with practitioners and other professionals across the country. Both Lisa and Chelsea are looking forward to next year’s National Family Law Conference!
